The reason for the low THC content in hemp is that most THC is formed in resin glands on the buds and flowers of the female cannabis plant. Industrial hemp is not cultivated to produce buds, and therefore lacks the primary component that forms the marijuana high. Furthermore, industrial hemp has higher concentrations of a chemical called Cannabidiol (CBD) that has a negative effect on THC and lessens its psychoactive effects when smoked in conjunction.
My mom takes it daily for her arthritis, she uses oil 3X a day and said she has not been pain free until now. We live in Canada so it is prescribed. The main thing is to start at around 2.5mg and go from there as you build a tolerance. Also make sure it’s not affecting other medications you are taking. It has the same side effect as grape fruit does with certain pharmaceuticals.
The aforementioned entourage effect is the main reason behind the efficacy of whole plant extracts. There are over 100 ‘identified’ compounds in the cannabis plant. While most of these compounds have their own therapeutic benefit, they combine synergistically to provide far better performance than any single compound alone, and that includes CBD. I purchased Ananda professional full spectrum Extract 600 20/mg/ml CBD oil. I started with .5ml dose the first night right before bedtime. I did not sleep well. I tried the same dose the following evening, and again, poor sleep. I tried it for two more nights and had the same results. I’m very sensitive to steroids and will only use them as a last resort, but the way I felt after taking the CBD oil, reminded me of how poor my sleep is on steroids. Or how vitamin B12 can affect me if I take it too late in the day. I have a lot of inflammation and pain and hoped the CBD oil would help. I am quite surprised at my reaction to it. Anyone else have trouble sleeping when taking it?
I totally agree. The greed of the pharmaceutical with their lobbyist to stop the government from making it a schedule III drug so much more research can be done. They do not care about the people, just money. We the people must rise up and let our government know, we care more about our friends and family than the money they give, to you congress men/women and senators get, and we VOTE. The only power we have is writing or calling congress men/women and senators, huge rallies and each and every ones VOTE. They would rather stay in office, than even receive big monies from big pharm for their campaigns. VOTES will win over.

Air-dried stem yields in Ontario have from 1998 and onward ranged from 2.6–14.0 tonnes of dry, retted stalks per hectare (1–5.5 t/ac) at 12% moisture. Yields in Kent County, have averaged 8.75 t/ha (3.5 t/ac). Northern Ontario crops averaged 6.1 t/ha (2.5 t/ac) in 1998. Statistic for the European Union for 2008 to 2010 say that the average yield of hemp straw has varied between 6.3 and 7.3 ton per ha. Only a part of that is bast fiber. Around one tonne of bast fiber and 2–3 tonnes of core material can be decorticated from 3–4 tonnes of good-quality, dry-retted straw. For an annual yield of this level is it in Ontario recommended to add nitrogen (N):70–110 kg/ha, phosphate (P2O5): up to 80 kg/ha and potash (K2O): 40–90 kg/ha. The average yield of dry hemp stalks in Europe was 6 ton/ha (2.4 ton/ac) in 2001 and 2002.
It should not be surprising that results like these have been going on for years. Just like research shows cannabinoids are therapeutically effective against epilepsy, there is research suggesting they can eliminate cancers and control other serious diseases. And in practice, for epilepsy and these other conditions, the results are translating to humans. People have been reliably eliminating cancers for years and mitigating diseases like diabetes, Crohn’s, fibromyalgia, heart disease, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, and more. This is as serious as it gets, and more attention must be brought to this issue.
Carol, thanks for your long and detailed post, and the links. In your paragraph where you reference various effects, you write “cannabis” several times. There are several components of “cannabis”, THC is the more psychoactive component – and current varieties have been bred/engineered to have ever increasing concentrations of this. CBD is another component, which has different and in some cases opposing effects vs. THC. Are the statements you made about effects of “cannabis”, do they center on THC, consumption/use of the whole plant, or have they broken out a purified CBD product and tested the impacts of just that component. Earnest question.
For starters, the term CBD denotes cannabidiol oil. Now, cannabidiol is a substance that forms naturally in industrial cannabis or hemp. The primary difference between CBD and hemp oil is the amount of cannabidiol – CBD oil contains relatively more cannabidiol in comparison to hemp oil. Besides, unlike hemp, CBD oil comes from stalks, flowers, leaves, and stalk of the hemp plant.
